Countdown to Midnight Madness!
MELBOURNE, Fla. (Basketball) – Just a few days remain until Florida Tech basketball’s Midnight Madness on Sunday, October 14! There will be tons of activities and fun competitions in which you can participate or watch. Doors open at 10:45 p.m., but be sure to be there early because students from Florida Tech’s ATO fraternity will be handing out free t-shirts to the first 250 people. There will also be free food and drinks while supplies last, so don’t be the last one in! Men’s head coach Billy Mims will be the master of ceremonies for the night. He’ll get things started at 11 p.m. with competitions for students from the audience. Participants will be able to show their skills in free throw, three-point and lay-up contests. In addition, there will be an NBA two-ball contest. It’s the same competition everyone sees at NBA All-Star Weekend every year. Teams of two will be able to shoot from different spots on the floor for different points to see which team can score the most. The contest will be run to the same music the NBA stars heard in their contest. After the open games for the crowd, don’t miss the high flying Panthers in a slam dunk contest to follow. At 11:45 p.m. the cheerleaders and pep band will get the crowd going and usher in the 2007-08 men’s and women’s basketball teams and coaches. The women will be presented with their 2006-07 trophy for the Sunshine State Conference championship and the new championship banner will be unveiled atop the Clemente Center. After that, the men will play an intra-squad scrimmage followed by a 1 a.m. open practice for the women’s team. Don’t miss out on the fun!
