Tech Women Fall to Rollins in OT

WINTER PARK, Fla. (women’s basketball) – The Florida Tech women’s basketball SSC season finale ends with a loss in overtime to the Tars of Rollins College
74-68.

Three Panthers scored in double figures against the Tars but fell short in overtime as Tech was held to scoring only five points in the extra time as the
Tars heated up scoring 11 to take a six point victory over the Panthers.

Tech started the game scoring the first five points of the game and eventually ran out to an eight point lead with ten minutes to play in the first half.
Keeping a comfortable lead, the Panthers gapped their lead of ten to fifth teen with five minutes to play in the first half. The Tars would go on a run of
their own at the end of the half closing the gap to ten and then trailed at the end of the half by eight 35-27.

The continuous pressure of the Panthers defense caused 13 Tars turnovers combining for five steals which turned into ten points for the Panthers in the
first half. Tech defense also caused Rollins to shoot only 29% from the field holding the Tars to only four second chance points.

The second half revamped the Tars to go on a 12-4 in the first five minutes of play to take their first lead of the game at 42-39. With their first lead of
the game, the Tars held onto the lead and gapped to a six point lead with 7:19 left in the game. Those next seven minutes saw the Panthers fighting back
going on a 11-5 run. Senior Kristi Harrell (Melbourne, Fla.) marked the tying points from the free throw line with a minute to play in regulation. After a
missed attempt by the Tars, the Panthers grabbed the rebound for a last attempt to win the game. With an inbound at their end of the court, the Panthers
had a look at the basket but missed the last second shot with the end of regulation and the game tied at 63 apiece.

Overtime saw the Tars jump on the opportunity at hand scoring eight points before the Panthers could score in OT taking the score to 71-66. With time
running out Tech would score again to mark their final points of the game of 68 as the Tars went to score three more points for the final score of 74-68 at
the end of OT.

Tech’s senior guard Kristi Harrell scored the team high of 14 points while also dishing out four assists. Senior teammate Jen Tamilio (Boston, Mass.)
scored 13 points grabbing 6 boards and also dishing out 4 assists in the SSC match up. Kristen Heminger (Merritt Island, Fla.) rounded out the scoring with
11 points with 3 assists on the night. Sabrina Jones (Orlando, Fla.) and Shante Johnson (Orlando, Fla.) each chipped in 4 points while combining for 13 of
the Panthers 46 rebounds on the night; 7 for Jones and 6 for Johnson.

Tech finished their SSC regular season with a 13-3 record and are now 21-5 overall and will host Johnson and Whales for their season finale on ‘Senior
Night’ on Saturday, February 24th with a starting time of 2 pm.
