Tech Unable to Hold Lead Falls 3-2 to Palm Beach Atlantic

MELBOURNE, Fla.-The Florida Tech Panthers (2-6-1) suffer the loss 3-2 against Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (2-7) in men’s soccer action at the Rick
Stottler Field.

Despite a 1-0 lead going into the half, The Panthers were unable to keep their composure allowing the Sailfish to come back and score three goals to defeat
Tech this afternoon.

The Panthers struck first after senior forward Mohammed Al Sharif (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) was fouled in the box by a Palm Beach Atlantic defender. Senior
midfielder Gerardo Valerio (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) scored the first goal off a Tech penalty kick.

Tech’s second goal also was scored off a Sailfish foul; Valerio smacked the free kick from the left line and was headed in the back of the net by junior
defender Brian Lundy (Satellite Beach, FL). Lundy picked up his first goal of the season.

At the 61st minute the Sailfish answered back when senior midfielder Tiago Dias (Recife, Brazil) scored off a free kick from teammate and local player
sophomore Peter McLean (Cocoa, Florida) just outside the box.

Palm Beach Atlantic scored their second goal when McLean nailed a shot directly at Tech’s starting keeper freshman Cory Collins’ head. Collins was unable
to hold onto the ball, due to the injury, and a rebound goal was taken in by sophomore Matt Sweesy (Simpsonville, South Carolina).

The game winner came at the 82nd minute of regulation playing time, when Dias rolled past the Panther’s defense and drew out Florida Tech’s keeper senior
Ashley Foster (Richmond, Texas) to score. The assist was awarded to McLean once again.

The Panthers will be back in action on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 when they host Eckerd in a Sunshine State Conference match at 4:00 p.m. on the Stottler
Field.
