Florida Tech Community Participates in Virtual Relay for Life
Relay for Life is one of the most widely participated in philanthropy events at Florida Tech. Each spring, the community comes together to walk laps in support of the American Cancer Society.
However, due to the circumstances surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, all on-campus events were canceled.
The Office of Civic Engagement did not let that stop its philanthropic efforts, though. After about a decade of Relay for Life events hosted on campus, the event went virtual.
To participate in the virtual event, Panthers were encouraged to make a donation on the Florida Tech Relay website, design a digital luminaria or share on social media photos and/or videos completing “laps” at home.
Panthers designed digital luminarias for this year’s virtual Relay for Life. Luminarias are created to honor those who have fought or are currently fighting cancer.
By the end of the event, the Florida Tech community had raised $708.03.
The top three fundraising teams were:
- Pi Kappa Alpha
- Baseball Club
- Lambda Chi Alpha
“Despite all the chaos and less-than-desirable circumstances, I’m proud of the level of support we still showed for Relay for Life. I truly look forward to the in-person event next year, so we can really make this event as significant as it should be, particularly in recognizing and celebrating survivors and those still fighting this terrible disease.”
