Derek Gores Retrospective Now on View at Foosaner Art Museum

Mid-Career Exhibition for Brevard Artist

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Derek Gores: Local Edition, a mid-career retrospective of the Melbourne-based artist whose clients and collectors include Prada, U2 and Adidas, opened a four-month run Nov. 17 at Florida Tech’s Foosaner Art Museum in the Eau Gallie Arts District.

Gores is celebrated for his innovative work in the art of collage, a montage process by which he creates compositions from magazine scraps, song lyrics and abstract patterns. A New York native and graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Gores has pieces in galleries around the world, from Miami, Los Angeles and Chicago to Rome, Paris and Berlin.

Designed by guest curator Serene McGroarty, Derek Gores: Local Edition builds beyond Gores’ repertoire of two-dimensional work and highlights his devotion to the local arts community while exploring the foundations of the funky, Neo-Dada style that has brought him international acclaim.

All six galleries at the Foosaner will showcase Gores’ playful artistic spirit and dynamic variety. The exhibition will also feature interactive tableaux, a new 3-D work, and an interactive “work room” where visitors can try their hands at Gores’ game, offering a unique opportunity to interrogate and explore the artist’s process.

Throughout the run of the show, the museum will showcase vendors and creative agencies from around the Eau Gallie Arts District, including at an opening party on Friday, Nov. 16, featuring live music, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres.

Related events, including gallery talks and artist-led workshops will be offered periodically during the exhibit, which will remain up until March 23, 2019.

Sponsors of Derek Gores: Local Edition include Larry and Mary DeRose, 98.5 The Beach and Flooring America.
