Epcot Center Musician to Demonstrate “Zheng” at Florida Tech

– As part of its Humanities Lecture Series, Florida Tech presents “Classical Chinese Music: A Presentation.” The lecture by, Ann Yao, is on March 20 at 7
p.m. in the F.W. Olin Life Sciences Building ground floor auditorium on University Blvd. It is open to the general public at no cost.

Yao, Artist in Residence at Walt Disney World’s Epcot Center China Pavilion, is a world-renowned zheng player. A long stringed instrument, the ancient
Chinese zheng is played horizontally with the fingertips, creating a melody that evokes images of gorgeous Chinese scenery.

Born in Shanghai, Yao grew up in a family of musicians. She has performed on some of the nation’s most prestigious stages, including Lincoln Center,
Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She recently collaborated on the premier of a new composition at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.

Presented by Florida Tech’s humanities and communication department, the series is made possible through the generous support of the Krieger Publishing
Company in Malabar and the Florida Tech Campus Activities Board. Professor Gordon Patterson is the series director. For more information, call Marilyn
Goravitch at (321) 674-8073.
