Florida Tech Shuts Down Palm Beach 3-0 Helping Celebrate the 2006 Senior Day

MELBOURNE, Fla. (women’s soccer)—Panthers celebrated Senior Day and Parent’s Weekend in style shutting out the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic 3-0 in NCAA II regional women’s soccer action today at the Stottler Field. In the pre-game ceremony nine of the Panthers were honored during the Senior Day Festivities marking the first four-year graduated glass since the inception of the women’s program in 2003.

Florida Tech out shot the Sailfish 17-7 really dominating the second half of play. Despite taking eight shots in the first half, both teams remained scoreless heading into the half-time break. Out of the 17 shots ten were shots on goal for the Panthers.

Tech finally opened up scoring in the 61st minute when senior midfielder Tara Euginedes (Dade City, Fla.) found teammate freshman teammate Teresa Brantley (Satellite Beach, Fla.) on a through pass up the middle. Senior Danielle Emhoff (Canton, Conn.) was awarded the double assist after flicking the ball to Euginedes. Brantley sliced the ball past the keeper to score her 8th goal on the season, netting the eventual game winner.

Fourteen minutes later the Panthers again made the most of a similar through pass up the middle by Euginedes only this time the ball found junior Ericka Hildreth (Cocoa Beach, Fla.). Hildreth found the back of the net off a hard shot from 25 yards back.

In the 90th minute Hildreth returned the favor to another senior honoree defender Ro Hernandez (Madrid, Spain) proving what true sportsmanship is all about with the Panther squad. After winning the ball on a double tackle, Hildreth drew out the goalie for an open net shot but chose to pass it to Hernandez coming from behind to score the third and final goal for the Crimson and Gray strikers. Hernandez notched her fifth goal on the season.

Tech’s freshman goalkeeper Melissa Pyles (Port Orange, Fla.) tallied off her 5th shutout on the year with a keeper record of 5-3-1. Pyles had three saves for the game.

The first year women’s soccer players were honored as they bring the program to a full circle with the inaugural class playing in the last weekend home match. Tech honored first year member and graduate student Natasha Bender (Columbus, Neb.) along with three year member Hernandez, who transferred to Florida Tech after her freshman year.

The next three seniors started out with the inaugural class, but due to injuries have missed out on playing every season including four year member Stephanie Martzall (Lantana, Fla.), four year member Jamie Saunders (Plantation, Fla.) and four year member Renee Yonkof (Zephyrhills, Fla.).

The final four year members were honored as being the only players to play and start in almost every game of the four seasons splayed including Jen Dunn (Vero Beach, Fla.), Miranda Tessier (Vero Beach, Fla.), Emhoff and Euginedes.
