Florida Tech Swing is Making Giant Leaps this Semester

As I have mentioned before in a previous post, I am part of Florida Tech Swing at FIT.  This month I had the opportunity to go to the Swingtime Jazz Band Dance, aka “Fall Kickoff Ball,” where an 18-piece band directed by Art Martin played swing music. With a close location, Melbourne Auditorium, and a $5 a ticket cost, there was no way I could say no.

At the ball, I danced with many experienced dancers, which helped me learn new moves and tricks of the trade. Swing was not all we learned; just from one night we were able to learn the basic steps for the waltz, tango and foxtrot. Florida Tech Swing has started teaching other types of dances closely related to swing. Right now we are learning the lindy hop.

Following our performance at the Art and Music Showcase last semester, we recently performed again at the Homecoming Talent Show. We had lots of fun and we hope to get more people interested in our organization. After that gig, we also performed at the Red Dress Gala held by Alpha Phi to raise money for heart disease research.

For those who missed out on the Swingtime Jazz Band Dance and would like to participate, the dance is taking place again November 7 and we will be there. Contact us on our Facebook group and join us on OrgSync. It will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will cost $5 presale and $7 at the door at Melbourne Auditorium.
