Florida Tech at Fort Lee Graduates 17 with Masters Degrees

FORT LEE, VA. — On August 13, 2009, Florida Institute of Technology and the U.S. Army Logistics University at Fort Lee, Va. awarded Master of Science degrees
to 17 students, some of which are on military assignment at Fort Lee.

Addressing the graduates were U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Michael J. Trombetta, deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command, Fort Lee and
Robert E. Niebuhr, dean, College of Business, Florida Institute of Technology.

Master’s degrees were conferred in logistics management, acquisition and contract management, materiel acquisition management and management. Among the
graduates were two naval officers from Greece.

Also graduating was CPT Thomas John Heilman who was awarded the Major Mathew Earl Schram Endowed Fellowship. This fellowship honors the memory of Mathew
Earl Schram, who as a major in the Army’s 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, was killed approximately 110 miles northwest of Baghdad when his convoy came under
attack from gunmen who opened fire with rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns. The fellowship provides recognition and support to distinguished U.S.
military officers enrolled in the Florida Tech / Theater Logistics studies program, a cooperative graduate degree program between the U.S. Army and Florida
Tech.

In March, 1973, the U.S. Army and Florida Tech established a cooperative degree program that combines instruction received during a 16 week Army logistics
class with graduate classes at Florida Tech. The entire program is completed at Fort Lee. The cooperative master’s program is for military officers,
federal government executives and foreign military officers.
