Florida Tech to Offer STEM Courses This Summer for High School Students

Physics, Calculus, Applied Statistics and Chemistry Offered as Virtual Classes

MELBOURNE, FLA. — High school sophomores, juniors and seniors can experience an array of classes from one of higher education’s leaders in science, technology, engineering and math with Florida Tech’s STEM Pathway Summer Program launching June 22.

In response to the disruptions in K-12 education caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Florida Tech is offering a six-week summer program specifically designed to prepare students with diverse backgrounds for the basic math and science courses that are essential for STEM degrees. The online instruction, which extends through July 31, will allow participants to tap into the teaching experience and expertise of Florida Tech faculty and graduate student assistants for unique and fulfilling courses.

The STEM Pathway Summer Program classes available are: Calculus Refresher; Introductory Physics Review; Introduction to Chemistry; and Basic R-statistics.

Each course will include six hours of weekly live instruction via Zoom as well as additional activities available on the participant’s schedule, including video lectures, learning activities, and virtual enrichment sessions with STEM professionals from academia and industry to help explore career and internship opportunities.

Because this is a non-credit program, it will include a variety of learning activities that are meant to serve as enrichment opportunities in place of exams and assessments. Students who complete the course activities will be provided with certificates of completion.

The courses are $300 each, and students may take one or more. The live sessions will be scheduled so as not to conflict with one another.

Collins Aerospace and Leonardo DRS have provided funding assistance for select high school students.
