Panthers Baseball Fall Short 5-2 against Rollins

MELBOURNE, Fla. – In a SSC match up against the Tars of Rollins College the Panthers were put down 5-2 against their rival team in the first game of the
three game SSC series at the Andy Seminick-Les Hall field.

The two teams were only able to get two hits apiece in their first plate appearances with neither side gaining any advantage over the other. For Tech, Nick
Brennan (Detroit, Mich.) led the inning off with a single with Steve Condotta (Mississauga, Ontario) answering with a single of his own to put Brennan in
scoring position but Tech was quickly put out as the two time SSC Pitcher of the week honoree from Rollins David Nathanson (Maitland, Fla.) warmed up.

Through the next two innings, the Panthers continued to struggle at the plate but defensively kept the Tars off the plate through the second and third as
starting pitcher Jay Crouse (Naples, Fla.) got the Tars to pop out four times and ground out two times keeping the game tied 0-0 going into the fourth
inning.

In the fourth, the Tars managed to break the ice scoring a run as Mike Crane reached on an error and eventually came around from a base hit from Stefano
Foggi to take the 1-0 lead. The Panthers would threaten again as Condotta reach base for his second hit of the game; Steve would get around to third base
for the potential tying run but would be left stranded as the inning ended on a ground out.

The Tars again in the following inning would put two more runs on the board as the first batter of the inning was put on after being hit from a pitch. A
follow up single would put two on the bases and then with a sacrifice bunt would move the runners to third and second. After the second base hit of the
inning, the Tars scored one run and then would score the other run off a fielder’s choice ground out. The Panthers would get out of the inning off a double
play ball hit to second basemen JD Davidson (Naples, Fla.).

With the Panthers stepping to the plate in the fifth, Tech’s Davidson reached base after being hit by the pitch. A fielder’s choice ground out by Danny
Sutton (Land O’Lakes, Fla.) moved Davidson to second. With the top of the order coming up, Nick Brenna (Detroit, Mich.) drove in the first run of the game
for the Panthers with a base hit into the left center gap. Brendan Twomey (Boca Raton, Fla.) with his lone base hit of the day moved Brennan over to third
into scoring position. Condotta would drive the Panthers second and last run of the game scoring Brennan with his third single of the game.

Tech starting to rally scoring two runs in the fifth would get within one to the Tars 3-2 but as quickly as they started the comeback Tech would be
shutout. Through the last four innings, the Panthers would only gather two hits and get one more on base from an error from the first base. Rollins would
score their final two runs in the eighth as they mounted a three hit two run eighth inning. Tech would combine for eight hits scoring two runs in the fifth
as they fell short to the Tars 5-2.

Tech’s record stands now at 19-10 overall and 4-3 in the SSC and will face the Tars again on Saturday, March 24th in an SSC double header starting at 12
noon at the Any Seminick-Les Hall Baseball Field.
