Renowned Behaviorist Dave Force to Hold Public Lecture Sept. 25 on Campus

Florida Tech Alumnus to Talk About Handling Life’s Hurdles

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Dave Force, a Florida Institute of Technology alumnus who spent three decades at SeaWorld developing standardized training techniques for behavior, will be on campus Friday, Sept. 25, and deliver a free lecture from 3-4 p.m. in Room 130 of the Olin Life Sciences Building.

Now a principal at San Antonio, Texas-based Constructive Behavioral Consulting, whose clients have included Fed Ex, Buffalo Wild Wings and Toyota, Force was a member of the Florida Tech class of 1973, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Biology.

For 34 years, he worked at SeaWorld, directing the activities of trainers, curators, veterinarians and biologists and helping add to the understanding of marine mammals and their ocean habitats.

Additionally, his educational and camp programs have launched the careers of thousands of young people in marine science, environmental studies, entertainment and education.

His lecture, which is open to the public, will touch on life’s unpredictability and how we can overcome the inevitable hurdles to our best-laid plans.

“Going from plan A to B to C to D can not only be curious, but also enjoyable and very rewarding along the way,” Force said. “If we embrace the challenges and changes of life, then we can truly achieve much more than anticipated, not just in our careers, but in our personal relationships as well.”

The lecture is co-sponsored by the Department of Biological Sciences, the College of Psychology and Liberal Arts and the Department of Marine and Environmental Systems.
