From the President’s Desk
As you know, financial aid in its multiple forms makes it possible for many of our students to attend Florida Tech. Just considering scholarships and fellowships, did you know that we offer over 90 separate scholarships or undergraduate awards and five ICUF scholarships? Also, 14 fellowships are available to support our graduate students. It is a top priority to recruit the best, most deserving students and provide the financial resources to achieve their goals. This starts with well-funded scholarships.
Many of the award programs were formed by faculty, former faculty members, trustees, alumni, organizations and corporations. For example, Dr. Virender Sharma is in the process of setting up a scholarship now, which he will fund with proceeds from his recent book.
One of the university’s biggest annual events to fund scholarships, Sporting Affair/Chopper Dropper, will take place March 15 at Suntree Country Club. Last year, Sporting Affair brought us $350,000 for our athlete scholars.
This year Chopper Dropper tickets are $100 apiece, with the grand prize doubling from previous years—to $50,000. There will be a $10,000 prize and 15 additional $1,000 winners. Whether you’re a golfer or not, Chopper Dropper is always a fun time at the country club and you will help athletes in our 21 competitive sports.
Coming up a little later, on April 27, is Moon River Music & Magic, a collaboration of Florida Tech and the Rotary Club. In the past three years this annual event made over $70,000 to fund scholarships for 24 of Brevard’s best and brightest graduating seniors entering Florida Tech.
Please remember that some of the students you see on this campus would not be with us were it not for scholarships. Join us in supporting scholarships and good fun.
