From the President’s Desk
It’s time for the annual Sporting Affair and Chopper Dropper, the biggest fundraiser for our student-athletes. I always enjoy participating and my golf foursome usually does pretty well. I anticipate a fun, successful event in 2012, and with luck, a big win. It makes a great time even better to know that we’re helping our student-athletes.
This year the Sporting Affair XX Golf Tourney and 9th annual Chopper Dropper are on Friday, March 16, once again at the Suntree Country Club.
In 2011 the event earned $360,000 for scholarships that support Panther athletes this academic year. The 2012 proceeds will go toward scholarships for student-athletes such as our lacrosse players and swimmers, who began competition for the first time last fall.
We raise Chopper Dropper funds by selling $50 golf ball sponsorships; exactly 2,500 numbered balls will be dropped by helicopter flyover on March 16. As most of you know, the ball closest to the pin wins $25,000 and last year Mary Love held the number of that ball. Other cash prizes are $10,000, $5,000 and 10 prizes of $1,000 each. The cocktail party is part of the fun and one individual per $50 ball sponsorship may enjoy a generous selection of food, soft drinks, wine and beer. Sporting Affair proceeds consist of major sponsorships, the golf tourney, and auction and raffle at the cocktail party.
Please join me in this premier fundraiser; come out and enjoy the fresh air, camaraderie and excitement of a pleasant evening for a very good cause. The cocktail reception is at 5:30 p.m. and the ball drop is at sunset.
