Local Talent on Display as Foosaner Offers ‘Vision 2019’ Exhibition

Show Opening April 6 Features Works from Strawbridge Art League

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Vision 2019, the annual juried exhibition of the Melbourne-based Strawbridge Art League, opens Saturday, April 6, at Florida Tech’s Foosaner Art Museum.

The exhibition is a return 20 years in the making. From 1979 to 1999, the museum in the Eau Gallie Arts District was the site of an annual juried exhibition by an auxiliary group called the Artists’ Forum. That group became the Strawbridge Art League, and for many years it held its juried shows at the Henegar Center.

“We’re truly thrilled to welcome them back to the museum,” said Carla Funk, executive director and chief curator of university museums.

The exhibition will be on view until May 25.

Vision 2019 exhibition chair and Strawbridge Art League founder John Emery said, “Vision 2019 gives art collectors in East Central Florida a window on the amazing talent the resides here.” 

The juror for this year’s Vision exhibition is Donna Torres, an adjunct professor of painting at Florida International University in Miami. Torres received her bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from the University of New Mexico and her bachelor and master of fine arts degrees in painting and drawing from Florida International University.

During the exhibition, works created by League members will also be available for purchase in the museum’s gift shop.

Accompanying Vision will be a smaller exhibit that pays tribute to those juried exhibitions from 1979 to 1999. Selections from Artists’ Forum Past Purchase Awards willfeature pieces from Brevard artists that were purchased by the museum and entered into its permanent collection.

“The Foosaner is excited to host a show that features local visual artists,” Funk said. “It’s a great way to engage the local arts community.”
