Communication Grad Recieves “Outstanding Alumni Award”

Candace Bowering, graduate of the Master’s program in Technical and Professional Communication from the department of Humanities and Communication, will receive the “Outstanding Alumni Award” at the Alumni Gala this homecoming weekend.

Candace (Boyer) Bowering graduated with honors from Allegheny College with a bachelor’s degree in English in 1997. She earned her Master of Science degree from Florida Tech in Technical and Professional Communication in 1999. Her early communication career encompassed a variety of roles, including serving as an adjunct faculty member for Florida Tech’s College of Psychology and Liberal Arts and owning her own successful marketing consulting firm in Brevard County. While she had a variety of loyal clients, her primary focus was in health care.

In late 2004, Candace decided to pursue an in-house healthcare communications career with Melbourne-based Witt Biomedical. In 2006, the Healthcare division of Royal Philips Electronics, an international health and well-being company headquartered in Amsterdam, purchased Witt. With the new opportunities of working for an international organization, Candace’s career blossomed, and in 2008, she was promoted to a Marketing Communications Director role in Andover, MA, where the company’s Healthcare business is headquartered. Her responsibilities ranged from leading strategic communications for large-scale international medical events to digital marketing and mobile apps.

In 2012, Candace was recruited to lead marketing communications for the International Division of the Fortune 500 healthcare device company St. Jude Medical, which is based in Minneapolis-St. Paul. After only 3.5 months, Candace was promoted to head marketing communications for the entire organization.

Candace, who is single, enjoys international travel, reading, fine arts, swimming and photography.
