Legg Mason Wood Walker Chair to Lecture at Florida Tech

– Florida Tech will present a luncheon lecture by James W. Brinkley, chairman of Legg Mason Wood Walker, Inc. on Feb. 23 at noon. Part of the College of Business Distinguished Lecturer Series, his presentation will take place on campus in the Hartley Room of the Denius
Student Center.

Brinkley began his career with the company as one of two founding members of Mason and Company, which in 1970 merged with Legg & Company to form Legg
Mason. Today he chairs what is the incorporated company’s financial services subsidiary.

Active in state and community activities, Brinkley is chairman of the board of directors of Business Volunteers Unlimited/Maryland. He also is a member of
the board of directors of the Greater Baltimore Committee, and the Maryland Science Center and Academy of Science.

Brinkley served as an Airborne Ranger infantry officer in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of captain. He received his bachelor’s degree in economics
from the College of William and Mary in 1959. He was rector of the Board of Visitors and chairman of the search committee for the 25th president of the
College of William and Mary. He is a trustee of the college’s School of Business and formerly was chairman of the investment committee of the Endowment
Board. He received an honorary doctorate of humane letters from William and Mary in 2003.
