MELBOURNE, Fla. (Women’s Basketball) – The most recent installment of the USA
Today
ESPN Top 25 Women’s Basketball Poll was released Tuesday and it showed good news for the Florida Tech Panthers.   The Panthers were voted
25th in the preseason poll voted on by 29 Division II head coaches across the nation. Now that a few games have been played, the voters like Florida Tech a
little bit better. The Panthers moved up to a tie at 17th with Shaw University (N.C.) which holds a record of 4-1 compared to Florida Tech’s 4-0.
“That is just a number,” Head Coach John Reynolds said. “It’s a
top 20 number, but it’s just a number. If we don’t start playing up to that, it won’t really matter.”   Not only is it a top 20 number though, it
places Florida Tech as the only Sunshine State Conference school in the top 25. However, the University of Tampa and RollinsCollege did receive 74 and 59
points in the poll respectively. This week a school needed at least 83 points to be included in the top 25. Florida Tech had 166 points.   Florida
Tech moves up to 17th thanks to a 4-0 record. The Panthers have registered wins of 62-46, 82-69, 97-34 and 65-53 on their unbeaten start. The wins came at
Palm Beach Atlantic and at home against the Universities of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez and Cayey as well as FloridaMemorialUniversity.   Junior guard
Kristin Heminger leads
the team in blocks and points with three and 86 respectively. Freshman guard Lynisha Nelson leads the team in assists
(29) and steals (12). Junior forward Sabrina Jones leads the team in
rebounds with 21.   The Panthers will see their next action at Miami Shores, Fla. on Saturday at 4 p.m. against the Buccaneers of
Barry University.
