Panthers Garner Postseason Honors

ORLANDO, Fla. (Cross Country) – After a very successful rookie season with Florida Tech,
Myles Garza has been named the Sunshine
State Conference Freshman Runner of the Year it was announced. He was additionally the lone freshman on the league’s All-SSC team. Also recognized by the
conference’s coaches and sports information directors was senior Carolyn Salois-Horst on the women’s All-SSC team.  
Garza had an immediate impact in his collegiate debut with the Panthers, notching Top 10 finishes in all four of the races in which he competed, and
registering the fastest time of all SSC runners this season with a time of 25:53 at the Florida Tech Invitational. A native of Bolingbrook, Ill., Garza
placed first at the Panthers’ home meet and fourth at the Tampa Early Bird Classic. He also registered a sixth-place finish at Embry-Riddle’s Smoothie King
Classic and placed ninth at the SSC Championship.   Horst ran in five races this year, turning in first place finishes at the Embry-Riddle Smoothie
King Classic and at the Gulf Coast Stampede in a season-best time of 19:15. She additionally led the Panthers and finished seventh overall in the
conference championship meet at St. Leo.  

Garza, Horst and several of their teammates are headed to Huntsville, Alabama this weekend to compete in the NCAA Division II South Regional Championships.
The races will take place Saturday, Nov. 3, beginning with the women’s 6K at 9 a.m., followed by the men’s 10K at 10 a.m., at Sharon Johnston Park in New
Market, Ala.
