Make-A-Comic Workshop a Success at Evans Library

Thirty-three students, faculty, staff, and kids (two little ones!) attended Evans Library’s Make-A-Comic workshop taught by Francis Gigantic of The Gigantic Company on August 22. Attendees learned the basics of comic book making and how to use several fun iPad apps to create their own comics. The workshop was part of our celebration of Banned Books Week, which features a comic and graphic novel theme this year. Sponsored by the American Library Association and Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, among others, Banned Books Week 2014 runs from September 21-27 and celebrates the freedom to read by providing activities to raise awareness of ongoing threats of censorship.

Evans Library is hosting a second event in honor of Banned Books Week on Friday, September 5, from 6-8 p.m. sponsored by Famous Faces and Funnies. Attendees will have an opportunity to read their favorite banned book, and the event will be filmed and shared to the American Library Association’s Virtual Readout of Banned Books. Sign up to participate or observe at lib.fit.edu/events.
