Doctoral Student Takes Child Abuse Prevention Award

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Michelle Prell, a Florida Tech doctoral student in clinical psychology, recently earned the Education Award at the 11th Annual Child Abuse Prevention Awards Banquet. The banquet was presented by Community Based Care of Brevard in collaboration with the Child Abuse Prevention Task Force.
The award honors an individual in higher education working in the field of child welfare who has promoted efforts toward strengthening and supporting families, specifically in the prevention of child abuse. Prell was commended for several contributions.
She was cited for her efficiency, dedication, and organizational and leadership skills as associate director of the Family Learning Program, a team group approach to treating sexually abused children and their family members. She also has worked as an educator, therapist, researcher and trainer.
Prell earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Florida Tech in May 2004 and was awarded most outstanding senior in 2004. She earned a Florida Tech master’s degree in clinical psychology in 2006. Prell is from St. Petersburg, Fla.
