First up is Facts on File – World News Digest. This database covers U.S. and international news stories from 1940 to the present, and contains an extensive compendium of facts and statistics courtesy of sources like Funk & Wagnalls New Encyclopedia and World Almanac and Book of Facts.

If you’re looking for something a little more on the technical side, turn to Access Science. Drawing from the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology and the McGraw-Hill Yearbooks of Science & Technology, this database will provide you with biographies, news, data, maps, and graphics for all of your science-related inquiries. Articles within the database also provide direction for further study – consider starting in this database when beginning a paper or project.

If general reference is your preference, Credo Reference and Gale Virtual Reference Library are great options. Credo Reference provides access to dictionaries, thesauri, encyclopedias, and atlases, as well as articles on a broad range of topics with images, sound files, animations, and videos.
