Chemistry Doctoral Student Wins Conference Travel Award, Speaking Slot

Diana Velosa, a doctoral student in Christopher Chouinard’s research group, received a Graduate Student Travel Award from the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) to present her research at the 2022 ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics in Minneapolis June 5-9.

Given annually to no more than 20 top graduate students nationwide, the travel award “recognizes graduate students whose academic achievements and current mass spectrometry research display a high level of excellence and distinction,” according to ASMS.

Velosa has also been awarded an oral presentation at that gathering, which routinely draws more than 6,000 researchers, many seeking to present their research. She will be presenting her research on using novel derivatization methods to improve detection of biomolecules by liquid chromatography-ion-mobility-mass spectrometry. Her presentation is titled, “What’s Old is New Again: Repurposing Derivatization Reactions as Targeted Molecular Manipulations for Isomer Resolution using Ion Mobility-Mass Spectrometry.”
