Registration Now Underway for Winter Art Classes, Workshops at Renee Foosaner Education Center

Florida Tech Facility Offers Something for All Ages, Interests

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Registration is now underway for winter art classes and workshops at Florida Institute of Technology’s Renee Foosaner Education Center in the Eau Gallie Arts District of Melbourne.

The new term, which will feature one-, two- and three-day workshops and 8- and ten-week classes, starts Jan. 26, 2016, and runs through April 2.

Pre-registration is required for all classes and workshops.

Upcoming workshops include:

Bill van Gilder – The Functional Pot: Tips, Tools & Techniques Demo Workshop: 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29; 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 30-31; $215 for members/$265 for non-members. Lunch provided. Jan. 29 evening lecture available for $40 members/$50 non-members.

Clay Date: 7-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12 and Friday, March 11. Clay for couples! $80 per couple for this one-day workshop. Bring your own bottle of wine and the Education Center will provide the rest.

Illuminated Landscapes II: Three-day glass fusing workshop with Fahan Sky McDonagh from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday-Saturday March 3, 4, 5.

Art classes, held Tuesday through Saturday, include a range of subjects for adults and children such as home-school art group, pottery, sculpture, watercolor, sketchbook and gestural acrylic painting.

The spring semester also features new class offerings. Those include:

The Zen of Coloring: 6-9 p.m. on the third Wednesdays of the month, February-April. Choose from three designs or bring your own coloring book. Colored pencils, fine-tip markers and coffee provided. $5 museum members/$10 non-members.

First Friday Raku: 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5 and Friday, March 4. Raku is an exhilarating firing process that is fast, furious and exciting. Class is for anyone who has bisque-fired pots suitable for Raku. Students will glaze and then participate in the firing of their pieces. Space is limited. $40 members/$50 non-members for enrolled students, $65 members/$75 non-members for non-enrolled. Fee allows each participant to fire three to four moderately sized pieces (no larger than 6 inches in diameter, 12 inches tall). Fee includes glazes, instruction and firing.

Drawing and Painting 101 with Heather Everett: 2-3:30 p.m. Wednesdays for grades K–2; Wednesdays 4-5:30 p.m. grades 3–6, Jan. 27-March 30. Full 10-week course is $150 members/$175 non-members. Drop-in rate for a single class is $20 members/$25 non-members. Register for the full semester and save, or drop in whenever convenient. Drop-ins must pre-register with paperwork at the beginning of the semester and then pay per visit.
