Sedlak, Horst Named First Panther Student-Athletes of the Month

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech athletics is launching its inaugural Student-Athletes of the Month program and Justin Sedlak (men’s basketball) and Carolyn Salois-Horst (women’s cross country) have been selected as the first recipients of the honor for the month of November.  

Sedlak, a sophomore from Pezinok, Slovakia, helped the Panther men’s basketball team to a 6-0 start in November, averaging a double-double with 17.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. He added 12 assists, three blocks and nine steals, posting double-figure scoring efforts five out of the six contests. Sedlak additionally shot an impressive 55.6 percent from the field during the span and was named the Sunshine State Conference’s first Player of the Week this season for his performance the week of Nov. 12.

Horst, a senior from Palm Bay, became the first Panther cross country runner in two decades to compete in the Division II National Championships in November, and the senior finished her career strong. Horst placed 74th out of 189 runners from around the country, finishing with a school record time of 22:28.6. She ends her career with the Panthers as one of the most decorated runners in the program’s history. Her credits include all-conference, all-region and Sunshine State Conference Runner of the Week accolades multiple times. Horst was also named an Academic All-American the past two years by the Cross Country Coaches Association and is on track to earn that honor again this year. She additionally won several races during her tenure, including two this season.
