Volleyball Comes Up Short

MELBOURNE, Fla. – (Sept. 22) Florida Tech volleyball fell to 12-4 overall and 0-4 in Sunshine State Conference play after a disappointing 1-3 loss to Saint
Leo Saturday afternoon.

Leading the way for the Panthers were Sacha Gumbs with 19 kills and five aces, Marcela Vasconcelos with 36 assists and
Amanda Boyce with 17 digs. Leigh Ann Brown also added five blocks.

Standouts for the Lions included Kaitlin McKenna with 14 kills, Michelle Nogueras with 36 assists, and Chelsea Armer with 16 digs.

Game one started out evenly with no score on a serve until Nogueras served for Saint Leo at the seventh point. This lead to interchanging four-point surges
and the Lions took the game 30-25. Tech bounced back in the second game maintaining complete control. The Panthers were dominant in the attack posting a
.405 percentage for the game and evened up the match with a score of 30-18. Game three started out well for the Panthers, but they nearly lost their
momentum after a few ball handling errors. Tech managed to recover, but fell behind at point 20 forcing a time out. Back on the court Tech scored three
quick points forcing a Saint Leo time out. At point 28 the game was tied leading to a see-saw into extra points. The Lions ended up taking the game 34-32.
Game four started out evenly until the Lions made a four point break-away at point 10. Ball handling and service errors plagued both teams throughout the
game and Saint Leo took the match 30-25.

The Panthers will return to the Clemente Center Wednesday, September 26 to face-off with Nova Southeastern at 7 p.m.
