Florida Tech Holds Grand Opening for Research Park at Melbourne International Airport

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Florida Tech Research Park, a partnership of Florida Institute of Technology and Melbourne International Airport, held its grand opening on April 26 at its new location on airport property. The research park, a self-sustaining innovation center, focuses on facilitating the creation, integration and application of technology for the region.

Moving the park offices to the current site on NASA Boulevard is intended to allow for expanded service delivery. The park continues to welcome tenants, most recently Archo Solutions Engineering USA, of Sao Paolo, Brazil, and not long ago, Revolution Technologies. The research park offers major business incentives, convenient support services and amenities, a strong university partnership and a substantial research base.

“It’s known that research parks create jobs and economic growth. I am very pleased that Florida Tech is in a position to make such an impact here in our community,” said Florida Tech President and CEO Anthony J. Catanese.

 Among those attending the event were Phillip W. Farmer, former CEO of Harris Corp. and chairman of the Florida Tech Board of Trustees; Kathleen Meehan, Melbourne mayor; Rick Cloutier, deputy director of aviation, Melbourne International Airport; Anthony J. Catanese, Florida Tech President and CEO; and Capt. Winston Scott, Florida Tech senior vice president for external relations and economic development.

Florida Tech is a member of the Florida Research Parks Network (FRPN). Capt. Scott chaired the committee to draft the 2013 legislative agenda for the FRPN. The university is also recognized as a member of the Association of University Research Parks (AURP), an international) network of research parks.
