Disease and Evolution at Florida Tech March 15

MELBOURNE, FLA.—How does evolution influence your health and well-being? Florida Institute of Technology’s Department of Biological Sciences presents Darwin Returns: Natural Selection and the Struggle for a Healthy Life. The free public forum, set for March 15, from 7 to 9 p.m., will be in the F.W. Olin Life Sciences Auditorium on campus.

Speakers will discuss disease, mutation and human health. The Forum’s leaders are biology professors Richard Sinden, Alan Leonard, Julia Grimwade and Michael Grace. Their topics will include: “Human Genetic Mutation and Evolution;” “Cancer is an Evolutionary Process;” “Superbugs: The Evolution of Antibiotic Resistance;” and “Swine Flu, Bird Flu: Pandemics, Evolution and You.”

The forum commemorates the 150th anniversary of the release of Darwin’s explosive book, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection.
