Faculty Member Earns Grant for Antenna Sensor Research

Dr. Brian Lail, Florida Tech assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, has earned a $73,000 subcontract for work on antenna-coupled
sensors from the University of Central Florida (UCF). The agreement is with the Infrared Systems Laboratory and Dr. Glenn Boreman at UCF’s Center for
Research and Education in Optics and Lasers.

In this collaboration between Florida Tech and UCF, Lail will research millimeter and sub-millimeter wave detection, and infrared detection in
antenna-coupled sensors.

Numerous applications for this work are primarily government and military, but are also commercial. They include antennae as landing aids and for obstacle
avoidance in fog and dust, for foul weather navigation, fire hot-spot location through smoke, for detection of concealed weapons and biological agents and
missile guidance.
