Nathan M. Bisk College of Business Launches Student Business Incubator with Crowd-funding on Rockethub.com

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Florida Institute of Technology is promoting new venture creation with the launch of the new Student Business Incubator. To get it off the ground, the Nathan M. Bisk College of Business has launched a crowd-funding initiative on Rockethub.com. The site is at: http://www.rockethub.com/projects/11795-launching-student-business-incubator

Scott Benjamin, assistant professor of strategy and entrepreneurship and director of the college’s Center for Entrepreneurship and New Business leads the effort and seeks $15,000 to initiate the Student Business Incubator. The funds will be used to remodel and equip a university-donated 2,400 square-foot space for the student entrepreneurs to develop their projects.

The incubator is a physical location in the Florida Tech-owned University Plaza building where students from all Florida Tech majors can nurture their new business ideas.

“We provide all students with the resources, education, location, mentoring and access to capital required to commercialize a technology. If students are thinking about launching the next Facebook or simply a retail space selling coffee, the Student Business Incubator can make this into a reality,” said Benjamin.

Even before the launch, 12 students with majors in engineering, computer science, business, psychology and others signed up to be a part of building their businesses at Florida Tech.
