Panthers Edge Out Embry-Riddle 2-1 at Home

MELBOURNE, Fla. (baseball) – Starting junior pitcher Erik Bua (Port Richey, Fla.) retired 29 of the 31 batters he faced in 7.2 innings pitched getting the
Eagles to ground out 12 times with 7 pop outs and striking out 4 Eagle batters. Bua allowed one run on five hits on the afternoon to get his second win on
the season as the Panthers in a pitching dual to defeat Embry Riddle 2-1.

Eamonn Powers (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit his second homerun of the year as he led off the second inning with a towering homerun over the right field wall to
score the first run of the game as the Panthers led 1-0 at the end of two. Through the next 4.1 innings the Panthers would be shut out as they stranded two
in the 5th with runners on at second and first. In the seventh, Tech’s offense got started with a one out walk to Brendan Twomey (Boca Raton, Fla.) and
then with back to back singles, the Panthers loaded the bases. Trevor Hearl (Cape Coral, Fla.) hit a hard ground ball to the right side that the second
basemen made a good play on the ball to get the force out at first but with the bases loaded and only one out the runner at third scored the Panthers
second run; Tech would go into the eight with a 2-0 lead.

In the eight, the Eagles would make it interesting as they led off the inning with a base hit. After a stolen base to put the runner in scoring position,
the Eagles would drive in their only run off a single through the right side to trail by one; 2-1. Mike McFadden (Richmond Hill, Ontario) would come in
from the bullpen to get the third out of the inning and stop any more damage. In the Panthers 8th, they would load the bases but would not drive in any
more runs.

In the last inning, the Eagles would get two on after a hit by pitch and a walk. They would move the base runners to second and third off an executed sac
bunt. The Panthers defense would get the second out of the inning off a force out at home with catcher Kevin Villa (Miami, Fla.) making the tag. Jake Koch
(Orlando, Fla.) who came in the middle of the ninth inning saved the game for the Panthers as he got the Eagles to ground out to end the game. Koch
received his second save on the year with Bua earning his second win of the year.

At the plate, Sam Palace (Clarkston, Mich.) and Danny Sutton (Land O’Lakes, Fla.) had two hits apiece while Powers hit the solo homerun of the game with
Hearl having a hit in the game as the Panthers had six hits for the game.

Defensive the Panthers combined for 15 assists with Steve Condotta (Mississauga, Ontario) turning seven of them from shortstop and JD Davidson (Naples,
Fla.) turning five from second base.

three game series on the Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.
