Florida Tech Student Earns Ocean Engineering Scholarship

MELBOURNE, FLA. – Brian Daly, a Florida Tech junior majoring in ocean engineering, has earned a $500 scholarship from the Society of Naval Architects and
Marine Engineers (SNAME).
Dr. George Maul, professor and head of Florida Tech’s Department of Marine and Environmental Systems, wrote to SNAME in nomination of Daly:
“We feel that Brian is a most worthy recipient of this award. He is an outstanding student and most active in the SNAME student club here on campus.”
A resident of Middletown, N.J. and on the Dean’s List, Daly is a member of a team of students working on a design project to engineer a scaled displacement
hull catamaran model. He is running accelerometer tests on it to compare its sea-worthiness to another hull model built by a previous student design team.
His career goal is in the field of coastal engineering.
The Department of Marine and Environmental Systems integrates the expertise and skills of scientists, engineers, and resource managers. DMES offers
undergraduate and graduate degrees in oceanography, environmental science, ocean engineering and meteorology.
