Prominent Engineering Society Awards Scholarship to Florida Tech Undergraduates

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Three ocean engineering undergraduate students at Florida Institute of Technology were recently awarded a scholarship by The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME). The $2,000 scholarship will be evenly divided between the students to use for academic expenses.

The students are Mark Christian, Nichole Waters and Erica von Bampus. They were nominated by Florida Tech ocean engineering faculty. To be considered for the award, a student must be an active member of SNAME, maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average and participate in leadership and other community activities.

The SNAME was established in 1893 to advance the art, science, and practice of naval architecture, shipbuilding and marine engineering. The society has over 8,500 members worldwide.

Florida Tech offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in ocean engineering through the Department of Marine and Environmental Systems.
