Public Welcome at Florida Tech Information Assurance Meeting July 18

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Harris Institute for Assured Information at Florida Institute of Technology and the Space Coast Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) present a monthly lecture series on security trends and topics. This month’s meeting, which is free and open to the public, is July 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the third-floor conference room of the Harris Center for Science and Engineering building on the Florida Tech campus.
The Institute hosts Malcolm McRoberts, Harris Corp. software engineer. His topic is “Hadoop and Big Data,” a discussion of the emerging role of No-SQL databases and their analytical capability to rapidly sort large volumes of data.
McRoberts is currently a software architect in the Enterprise Architecture Core Technology Center at Harris Corp. and has been the principle investigator for a multi-year research project on cloud computing, big data and service-oriented architecture. Previously McRoberts worked as architect on the product line architecture for Army live training, designed the software infrastructure for the IRIDIUM ground segment, and developed C++ source libraries for RogueWave. McRoberts holds a bachelor’s degree in applied math from Carnegie-Mellon and a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Central Florida. He has published several papers in the areas of cloud computing, SOA and process simulation.
