Sailing Club Places Third in New Orleans

MELBOURNE, FLA. —The Florida Institute of Technology Sailing Club recently finished third at the Nelson Roltsch Intersectional Regatta. The two-day competition in New Orleans, La., was hosted by Tulane University, The University of New Orleans and the Southern Yacht Club.

A total of 13 teams competed including Purdue University, Notre Dame, University of Texas and University of Florida. The regatta was a two-division, rotational event.

Two teams represented Florida Tech. On team A were skipper Adam Harris with Chloe Mallet; on team B were skipper Peter Sawyer with Mark Anderson. Both teams sailed six races per division on the first day and three races per division on the second day, garnering enough points to beat out 10 other teams for the third position.

Currently there are 300 members in the Sailing Club with faculty member Stephen Wood, ocean engineering program chair, as adviser.
