Florida Tech Hosts USRA Regional Meeting

Florida Tech hosted the Universities Space Research Association (USRA) Region IV meeting at the university’s Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Innovative Design on Oct. 27.

The meeting started with welcomes from Marco Carvalho, Florida Tech’s executive vice president, provost and COO, and USRA President and CEO Jeff Isaacson. The first regional member presentation was from Florida Tech’s John Harris, dean of the College of Engineering and Science. He offered an overview of Florida Tech and the college he leads and a look at some of the departments, faculty and research topics therein.

Harris said building awareness of Florida Tech’s capabilities and accomplishments and growing the university’s externally funded research are two areas of focus.

Other members of the Florida Tech delegation at the meeting were David Fleming, head of aerospace, physics and space sciences and aerospace engineering chair, and Tristan Fiedler, federal government programs manager.

USRA leadership and faculty representing Region IV members Georgia Institute of Technology, Vanderbilt University, University of Tennessee, University of Florida, Florida State University, University of Central Florida, William & Mary, North Carolina State University, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Old Dominion University and Hampton University offered additional presentations and discussions.
