Indiafest Donates $40,000 to Assist Florida Tech Students in Need
University Names Panther Dining Hall Atrium for Group
MELBOURNE, FLA. — Indiafest, the volunteer-run, non-profit cultural organization with an illustrious history of impactful philanthropy, donated $40,000 to Florida Tech to provide emergency loan support to students in need.
The gift was designated in 2020 amid the major disruptions of the burgeoning COVID pandemic.
On Jan. 7 in what is now the Indiafest Atrium at Panther Dining Hall, Florida Tech President Dwayne McCay and Executive Vice President and Provost Marco Carvalho were joined by Gary Grant, senior vice president for development, and Major Gift Officer Lindsey Turner, for a check presentation with Indiafest leadership.
The gift is not Indiafest’s first to Florida Tech. In 2011, Indiafest established an endowment scholarship at the university for a Brevard County student with a $100,000 gift. That fund has now grown to $167,000.
Since the 1990s, Indiafest has donated over $1 million to a variety of charitable causes. In addition to Florida Tech, other beneficiaries have included Haitian earthquake relief, Florida hurricane relief, early intervention programs, Daily Bread, Serene Harbor, Crosswinds, Candlelighters of Brevard, 9/11 disaster relief, Sentinels of Freedom – Veterans Re-Training Program, The Children’s Hunger Project, Promise in Brevard, Habitat for Humanity and Shriners of Brevard.
The 2022 Indiafest is set for March 5-6 at Wickham Park.
