Senior Receives National Chemical Engineering Scholarship

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Matthew Herdiech, a Florida Tech senior majoring in chemical engineering, has earned one of just 15 National AIChE Donald F. and Mildred
Topp Othmer 2007-2008 Scholarship Awards of $1,000 each. The AIChE is the Institute of Chemical Engineers.

A second-time winner of the award, Herdiech will be recognized this month at the AIChE National Student Conference, which will be held in Salt Lake City,
Utah. Winning students are judged on academic achievement and involvement in student chapter activities.

Named Outstanding Junior at Florida Tech’s Honors Convocation last May, Herdiech has served as vice president and president of the Florida Tech student
chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He has worked with two Florida Tech professors, James Brenner and Paul Jennings, as research
assistant and literature assistant, respectively. He was also selected as the 2006 recipient of the Chemical Engineering Outstanding Sophomore.

From Greenfield, Mass., he graduated from Greenfield High School in 2004.
