Paula do Vale Pereira Participates in Conferences, Webinar

Paula do Vale Pereira, assistant professor of aerospace engineering, had a busy fall 2022, participating in multiple conferences and speaking at a NASA webinar.

AIAA ASCEND: ASCEND is one of the largest aerospace engineering conferences in the U.S. In 2022, it drew over 1,200 attendees and 380 speakers to Las Vegas for the three-day event. do Vale Pereira chaired three technical sessions and will be one of the technical organizers for the entire conference in 2023.

Small Satellite Education Conference: do Vale Pereira and several Florida Tech students attended the inaugural Small Satellite Education Conference held at Kennedy Space Center in October. The conference was focused on students and educators interested in CubeSats, ThinSats, and high-altitude balloons. The conference was recorded. do Vale Pereira’s talk, “Designing, Assembling, Testing and Operating CubeSats: Practical Perspectives and Lab Vision,” is the first presentation in Session 4.

NASA Flight Opportunities: A program under NASA’s Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD), Flight Opportunities helps researchers flight test their research either through zero-gravity flights, sub-orbital launches, or orbital launches. In November, the program offered a “community of practice” webinar at which do Vale Pereira spoke about lessons learned through her involvement in both zero-gravity and orbital opportunities. (He remarks begin at 15:45.) Two program managers for NASA orbital launches also spoke.
