A group of six scientists, researchers, engineers and other space professionals from India visited Florida Tech’s Spaceport Education Center for a presentation from the center director and head of the Department of Aerospace, Physics and Space Sciences, Don Platt.
Representatives from private companies Neogen Chemicals Limited and Catalyx Space Inc. joined academics from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, the National Institute of Advanced Studies, the Amrita School of Engineering and the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology for the meeting on Oct. 14.
“I highlighted our space degrees offered at the Spaceport Education Center in Titusville, just outside the gates of Kennedy Space Center,” Platt said. The visitors want to grow the professional space workforce in India and want to learn from Florida Tech’s training, certificate and degree programs for their workers.
The visit was in partnership with World Orlando, the local implementer of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership program, which aims to strengthen relations between U.S. and international professionals across a range of fields.
The goal of the delegation’s visit was to see U.S. space science and technology standards, explore academic and professional partnerships, build connections with private and public space programs and to look at challenges facing the space industry and what can be done to mitigate them.
