Panthers Fall in Eleventh Inning Battle 3-0
MELBOURE, Fla. In the Sunshine State Conference battle of the “Hurling Amber’s” the Panthers fell 3-0 despite junior pitcher Amber West (Apopka, Fla.)
stellar performance in the circle for Tech. Despite out hitting the #25 ranked Barry Buccaneers (30-10, 4-3) five to four Florida Tech (34-18, 10-3) for
the eleventh inning outing the Panthers succumbed to the Bucs after an error in the eighth started the three unearned run rally at the Nancy Bottge Field.
West (13-9) pitched 11 innings allowing only four hits on three unearned runs. She faced 38 batters fanning seven and walking one suffering the loss. Amber
Jack (Homestead, Fla.) was awarded the win also going 11.0 innings allowing five hits for the shut-out. Jack (18-6) struck-out five Panthers.
Amanda Goelz (Palm Bay, Fla.) started the ball rolling for the Bucs reaching on an error to Tech’s centerfielder Danielle Stanley (Grayson, Ga.). Goelz was
moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt. Jack reached on a fielder’s choice after senior third baseman Katie Naumoff (Poland, Ohio) threw down to third to
keep Goelz from scoring.
With runners placed on the first and third, West took the second out herself on a pop-up bunt. Unfortunately, the Bucs only double came off a shot by
Brittany Anderson (Chandler, Ariz.) to right center. Lead-off batter Shyla Rider (Woodbridge, Va.) plated Anderson on the final single of the game for one
more insurance run.
Naumoff led Tech with the lone double of the game. Senior Kristen Fettes (Deltona, Fla.), senior Laura Chisena (Ocoee, Fla.), junior Ali Wiegand
(Tallahassee, Fla.) and freshman Ida Danielson (Fairfield, Cal.) each added a hit for the game.
Both teams will be back in action for games two and three of another SSC doubleheader tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. on the Nancy Bottge Field.
