“Best Team Spirit” Award

Saturday, May 12, second entry – The Biological Oceanography students from Florida Tech joined with the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology’s students and staff for a campus cleanup.  Because we enjoyed the private beach so much for our campfire, we volunteered to clean it up.  After spending an hour or two at the OIMB beach, we had several bags of garbage, including a wet blanket and lots of shredded Styrofoam.  The most thought provoking refuse was an old wet blanket which Caroline pulled from the adjacent forest – covered with moss! And Simon found and captured a handsome snake (see image at top of post). The Florida Tech Biological Oceanography students rejoined the OIMB folks for the recognition and awards ceremony.  There were prizes given out for most garbage, most interesting, most heroic feat…

Caroline’s mossy sleeping bag was awarded the Most Interesting piece of garbage, which came with a commemorative children’s book (Yay Caroline!). Simon’s snake was in the running for Best Wildlife Encounter, but lost out to a slug or a squirrel skull or something … and the Biological Oceanography students from Florida Tech were given the Best Team Spirit Award, and a poster of the “Crabs of the Oregon Coast” – way to go Florida Tech!
