VP to Speak at National Green Energy Council Conference on Oil Spill

MELBOURNE, FLA.—Clifford Bragdon, Florida Institute of Technology vice president of the Office of Strategic Initiatives and executive director of the Global Center for Preparedness and Resilience, has been invited by the National Green Energy Council to give a presentation at the Gulf Oil Spill Disaster Response Summit on June 17. The forum will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mobile, Ala., Convention Center.

It is being organized by the Disaster Response Leadership Forum, an independent organization dedicated to identifying the most effective disaster response solutions. In the past, this forum has sponsored events that have addressed global problems requiring responses concerning hurricanes, tsunamis, terrorism and other conflicts throughout the world.

This summit will feature federal, state and local officials involved in the Gulf oil spill disaster response; private sector leaders with disaster response solutions; and national experts on stopping the spill, oil dispersants and environmental damage.

“This will be a comprehensive national forum of experts from around the country and a showcase of proposed solutions to the BP/Horizon oil spill disaster,” said Bragdon. The three-part event will address the current crisis, prevention and documentation for future use.

Bragdon will present “Better Models for Disaster Preparedness,” describe four dimensional approaches to examine the problem and discuss the use of planning, management and technological strategies to develop a resilient solution. The solution is to ensure that the issues of sustainability, security, safety and health are properly addressed from a holistic perspective.

Bragdon, who earned a doctoral degree in city planning from the University of Pennsylvania, lectures widely on such subjects as global resilience, sustainability, virtual simulation and modeling, safety and security, urban planning and intermodal transportation. He recently published the book, Transportation Security, and is now writing his seventh book, Diet Resilient Cities. He also coordinates the annual Conference on Global Preparedness and Resilience. The fourth conference will be held March 16-17, 2011.
