Students Earn Awards for Papers at Florida Academy of Sciences Annual Meeting
MELBOURNE, FLA. —Six Florida Tech students earned top awards and two earned honorable mentions for their papers at the 75th Annual Meeting of the Florida Academy of Sciences, held recently at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Undergraduates earning awards were Nathan Mertins of the Department of Physics and Space Sciences, an Outstanding Undergraduate Student Oral Paper award for a paper on muon tomography; and Kody Lieberman of the Department of Marine and Environmental Systems, an Outstanding Undergraduate Student Oral Paper award for a paper on macrofouling in the Indian River Lagoon.
Graduates earning awards were Himali Kalakhety of the Department of Physics and Space Sciences, an Outstanding Graduate Student Oral Paper award for a paper on the search for a Z’ boson; Sarah Krejci, Department of Marine and Environmental Systems, an Outstanding Graduate Student Oral Paper award for a paper on the habitat preference of pipefish; Lorian Schweikert, Department of Biological Sciences, an Outstanding Graduate Student Oral paper award for a paper on penta-chromatism in the Atlantic tarpon; and Marco Raczka, Department of Biological Sciences, an Outstanding Graduate Student Poster Paper award for a paper on vegetation and climate during the first human occupation of an area of Brazil.
Also, Kim Day, Department of Physics and Space Sciences, earned an honorable mention for her undergraduate student oral paper on muon tomography and Katrina Smart, Department of Marine and Environmental Systems, earned an honorable mention for her graduate student poster paper on static immersion panels.
