Banned Books and More on Display at Florida Tech

To commemorate Banned Books Week, Sept. 23-30, Florida Tech’s Evans Library has mounted an exhibit of books banned or challenged over the years. The
exhibit, in the library lobby, began July 1 and continues through Sept. 30.

A book jacket display is concealed in a glass case behind “plain brown paper,” with openings cut out for the curious. A simulated bonfire “burns” disputed
books. Mounted on the wall is a timeline of book burnings and destruction through the ages, charting books destroyed around the world for their social,
sexual, religious or political content.

Community visitors may also enjoy the lobby’s display of quilt tops. These are hand-crafted top quilt pieces, without batting.

Visitors are welcome to browse these exhibits and the facility’s holdings during library hours. Summer hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.;
Fridays 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Saturday 1 – 5 p.m.; and Sunday 2 – 10 p.m.
