Rotary Club, Florida Tech Provide Scholarships, Invest in Brevard’s Future

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Rotary Club of Indialantic, in collaboration with Florida Institute of Technology, is hosting the 11th Annual Moon River Music & Magic. The event, a fundraiser for students entering college, is scheduled for April 27, from 6 to 9 p.m., on campus. The scholarship program focuses on retaining Brevard’s best and brightest to pursue higher education at Florida Tech.

“This wonderful fund raiser helps hard-working youths to fulfill their dreams of a college education. We are honored to participate,” said Florida Tech President and CEO Anthony J. Catanese, an active member of the Rotary Club of Indialantic.

As previously, Florida Tech will make a dollar-for-dollar match of the funds raised. In the past three years the annual event made over $70,000 to fund scholarships for 24 of Brevard’s best and brightest graduating seniors entering Florida Tech.

The event will feature unlimited gourmet food and beverages, a silent auction, raffle, classic car exhibit and the Magic River in the university’s Botanical Garden. Entertainment will be provided by live bands, including The Atlantic Blue Grass Band, Arturo Echarte (Acoustic for a Change) and TWITCHY, Florida Tech’s faculty rock ‘n roll band. A donation of $50 is payable at the event. Sponsorships are available.

Brevard high school graduating seniors, who have been identified as prospective scholarship candidates, will be interviewed and selected based on criteria that include academic standing, financial need, leadership qualities and community involvement. Since the mid-‘80s, the Rotary Club of Indialantic has provided college scholarships to Brevard County high school graduates. In addition, the club makes contributions to local social and welfare organizations. Individual member donations and club-sponsored fundraisers have provided these funds since the club’s founding in 1958.

Organizations and individuals are invited to make donations to help finance the scholarship program. These may be made to the Indialantic Rotary Foundation, a 501(c)(3) registered tax-exempt corporation. Donations can be mailed to: Rotary Club of Indialantic, P.O. Box 033134, Indialantic, Fla., 32903. For pre-payment through PayPal/credit card, go to: www.indialanticrotary.org.
