Past, Current Board of Trustees Chairmen Step up to Give to Florida Tech Campaign

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Giving the Golden Anniversary Campaign for Florida Tech a kick start, Allen S. Henry, immediate past chairman of the university’s board of
trustees, and Phillip W. Farmer, current chairman, have made donations in the campaign’s silent phase. Both donated $500,000 to fund undergraduate
scholarships, making a Florida Tech degree possible for future generations of students.
Industry and community leaders, Henry and Farmer have long been known for leading a charge.
Retired CEO of Harris Corp., Farmer said that scholarships made a difference for him in attaining his education. “The only way I could have gone to Duke
was with scholarship help,” he said. “If I can help even one person study at Florida Tech that could not afford to do so otherwise, it’s a form of
repayment that warms my heart.”
Henry, former CEO of Broadband Communications Products Inc., agrees.
“My higher education was largely self-supported, he said. “Scholarships and student loans were a big part of that. I also worked a lot. Scholarships were
especially important to me as an undergraduate.”
The two men’s gifts will create scholarships for as many as five or six Florida Tech students each year. An important strategic goal for the Golden
Anniversary Campaign is to establish new scholarships and further fund existing ones.
“The quality of a university is measured by the quality of its students and scholarships provide a significant way to attract the best and brightest,” said
Farmer.
