5 Ways to Get Around Campus

Students use many different types of transportation at Florida Tech. Here are 5 ways to get around campus: 1. Walking The most obvious way to get around is by walking. Most classes are located on the main campus. You can walk comfortably on-campus almost all-year round; there's no snow, hail or temperatures under 50° (usually). You will encounter rain, so bring your rain jacket and boots. Otherwise, come prepared for a warm and sunny walk to class! 2. Bikes/Longboards The other two main modes of transportation students use on-campus are bikes and longboards. You may even see the occasional scooter. There are bike racks at almost every building, especially in the housing areas. Eating areas like the SUB and Panther Dining Hall have longboard racks so they are not in the way. Something that is always repeated at orientation is to lock up your bike, so bring one that can't be cut! It's really fun to go to Walmart or Target with your friends and pick out your bike or longboard. It's even funnier trying to fit them into your car! 3. The Trolley and Panther Shuttle The Trolley is used by the Florida Tech community to get between buildings instead of walking or driving. The Panther Shuttle is great for students who live at Panther Bay and for aeronautical students. Besides the main campus, the shuttle provides transportation to the Center for Aeronautics and Innovation and flight line. On Friday evenings, you can take the trolley Downtown until 10:30 p.m. You can also use the trolley to get to athletic games held at the Panther Stadium, like football and lacrosse games. 4. Car/Carpooling Cars are a popular mode of transportation for students. You will also see motorcycles and scooters parked around campus. These vehicles provide the opportunity for adventures off-campus, like going to the beach, the zoo or the parks in Orlando. If you don’t have a car on-campus, then your roommate or friend probably does. 5. Shortcuts There are many different routes you can take to get to your destination. Instead of taking your regular route to class or the dining hall, walk through a building you've never been through or the Botanical Gardens. There are many interesting things to discover, like a display in the F.W. Olin Life Sciences building or a club in the Student Union Building. You might cut a few minutes off your travel time or meet some new people.
