Astronomy Lecture Features Captain Cooks Astronomer

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Tech’s Astronomy and Astrophysics Public Lecture Series will present “Captain Cook, His Astronomer and the South Seas” on Jan. 26
at 8 p.m. The presentation, free to the community, will be in the F.W. Olin Engineering Complex auditorium, Room EC118.
The lecturer is Dr. Stephane Vennes, assistant professor in Florida Tech’s Department of Physics and Space Sciences. On the university’s faculty since
2005, Vennes’s chosen research areas include stellar astrophysics, hot white dwarf atmospheres and UV/X-ray observations. He earned a doctoral degree from
the University of Montreal.
There will be stargazing afterward, on the rooftop of the Olin Physical Sciences Building, weather-permitting.
