Provost Appointed to Florida Chamber Caucus

Group Plans October 11-12 Conference in Orlando

MELBOURNE, FLA.— Florida Institute of Technology Provost and Executive Vice President T. Dwayne McCay has been selected for membership in the Florida Chamber Foundation Six Pillars Caucus System. Caucus members are the state’s “best and brightest” with commitments aligned to one of the “Six Pillars of Florida’s Future Economy.”

The Six Pillars are key topics of the Chamber’s Future of Florida Forum Oct. 11-12 in Orlando.

The product of years of collaboration and research by the Florida Chamber Foundation, the Six Pillars identify critical factors determining Florida’s future: Talent Supply and Education; Innovation and Economic Development; Infrastructure and Growth Leadership; Business Climate and Competitiveness; Civic and Governance Systems; and Quality of Life and Quality Places.

“This state is a special place faced with unique challenges as well as opportunities,” McCay said. “I look forward to our ongoing dialogue as we all prepare ourselves for Florida’s future.”

Caucus members are charged with providing strategic recommendations, corresponding policy options and white papers, which will be shared with the Florida Chamber of Commerce and other partners and could lead to policies that could become priorities for Florida’s economic agenda.

McCay is Florida Tech’s chief academic officer, second in charge to President Anthony J. Catanese. He is responsible for all academic, research and student matters, including athletics.

Before joining Florida Tech in 2003, he was the vice president for research and information technology at the University of Tennessee. He also served as chief research officer and chief information officer for all university units and was selected as an Alumni Distinguished Service Professor.

Among his many civic involvements, McCay also serves on the Education and Public Outreach Committee of the NASA Advisory Council. This is the senior external advisory body for addressing important program and policy matters related to the United States civil space program.
